The new objectives are to reduce waste, reuse advanced materials within the manufacturing process and not generate further waste.
The company is committed to developing a sustainable product, whose life cycle and production process are transparent and traceable. Also in terms of presentation of the company's proposals, some innovations have been introduced such as the digitization of the new collections and part of the archive.
The Travel Collection has been created, a new way of presenting fabrics, capable of meeting the needs of customers, minimizing the environmental impact and supporting the reuse of materials, so as to reduce any waste.
Energy efficiency
To meet the expectations market and society, Colombo Industrie Tessili carried out an energy audit in 2020 which involved all internal areas in order to plan an effective and timely efficiency improvement proposal.
Following what emerged, Colombo Industrie Tessili, which since 2012 has installed a photovoltaic system capable of covering about 20% (140,000kwh) of the company's energy needs, has put into practice some solutions that entirely affect the company, from production to the offices.
Energy efficiency is currently one of the main objectives linked to the competitiveness of the company: in the face of this, a plan for constant monitoring of consumption has already been implemented and an intervention plan has been prepared for a sustainable management of activities over time, regardless of economic convenience, with the aim of reaching the ever increasing use of renewable energy.
ZDHC approach and chemical risk mangament
With the support of the Centro Tessile Serico of Como, Colombo Industrie Tessili came into contact with the ZDHC, an international program that that aims to drastically reduce hazardous chemicals in the entire supply chain of the sector, based on the principles of transparency and management of chemicals according to an integrated prevention and precaution approach.
In order to be able to correctly apply the program, the company has made available to its employees, in collaboration with the Centro Tessile Serico di Como, a training course and has set up a model that provides the management and assessment of the chemical risk inside the company and an external risk assessment through control and collaboration with suppliers.
Colombo Industrie Tessili has a small and flexible internal structure that allows constant collaboration among all the roles and ease of communication within the internal functions.
The function managers are 50% women while about 50% of the employees have been in the company for more than 10 years: this facilitates a transfer of skills between the old and the new generation.
The enhancement of human capital is also important: the company promotes an inclusive work environment that counteracts all forms of discrimination. Employees are offered training courses to consolidate their skills and at the same time the alternation courses between school and work are enhanced.
In addition, to encourage reuse but also to create a network with the community outside the company, a small part of the production waste is reprocessed by Italian craftsmen or given to young designers.
